Step one · The plan

Before anyone manages a dollar, we build your plan.

The Comprehensive Retirement Roadmap is a complete, written plan for your retirement income — how much you can spend, how to draw it down without overpaying in taxes, and how it holds up when life changes. It's step one of how we work: a flat-fee, four-month engagement that stands on its own and shows you exactly what running your retirement takes.

What you actually walk away with

A written plan you own — detailed enough to run yourself. It answers 21 questions across three areas:

Foundations
Your income system

Your safe spending number, where each month's paycheck comes from, and how it adjusts when markets move.

Your Dynamic Withdrawal Plan
Optimizations
Your tax & withdrawal strategy

The order you draw from your accounts, your Roth-conversion plan, and how to stay under the income lines that raise your Medicare premiums and tax bill — mapped year by year.

Your Tax-Efficient Withdrawal roadmap
Contingencies
Your what-if plan

Stress-tested against the things that actually derail retirements: an early death, a long-term care event, a bad market in your first years.

Your Contingency Risk Audit

How the four months work

It's a real working process, not a one-time PDF.

Before the meetings
Data gathering, made simple

We use a guided tool (Arrows) with short walkthrough videos, so getting your full financial picture in one place takes a few easy sessions — not weeks of homework.

Then a series of working meetings:
1
Plan Proposal

Your baseline: can you retire, when, and how much can you safely spend.

2
Cash Flow & Taxes

Your income and tax strategy, year by year.

3
Investments 1 — your portfolio risk audit

We review the investments you already own against your plan and check them on the risk measures that matter. It answers one question: are your investments steady enough to fund the retirement you want for its full length — or volatile enough that they'd eventually force you to cut back? It's an audit of what you already own, not a list of things to buy.

4
The final meeting depends on the path you choose
Investments 2
if you're considering step two

We walk through what a long-term relationship would look like — the value of having us execute your income and tax plan for you, and how we'd build and manage the portfolio to support it.

Wrap-Up
if you'd rather run it yourself

We hand off all your finished plan materials and teach you how to put them into action on your own.

Why we build the plan before anything else

Most firms start by managing your money and fit the advice around it. We think that's backwards. We build your complete plan first — before you commit to anything, and before we recommend a single product — so every recommendation is based on your actual situation, not on what we'd be trying to sell you.

It's education-based: you'll understand the reasoning behind your plan, not just be handed an answer to trust. And it's how you evaluate us. By the end of four months you'll know whether our team is who you want running your retirement — and you'll have a complete plan in hand either way.

It's also how we keep retirement planning transparent — for everyone, not just the people who end up hiring us. You see the finished work, and the quality of our thinking, before you make the bigger commitment of handing over your investments.

Call it dating before marriage: you know exactly what you're getting, and what we're capable of, before anything long-term is on the table.

What it costs

It's a real fee for a real product, not a loss-leader to pull you into managing your money. We price it that way on purpose. The plan is genuinely valuable and complete enough to execute on your own — and that's exactly how you find out whether you want us for the long haul. You have the right to spend the money you worked a lifetime to save — whether that means spending it down to zero or leaving an intentional legacy — and this plan shows you how, on your terms.

When the plan is done, here's what happens next

You'll have three honest options.

OPTION 1
Run it yourself

The plan is complete enough to execute on your own.

OPTION 2
Take it to another advisor

It's your plan — bring it wherever you like.

OPTION 3 · MOST COMMON
Have our team run it with you

Move to step two and hand the execution to us.

About three out of four clients choose step two — usually once they've seen how much goes into executing the plan year after year. If you move into that relationship and we manage more than $1M for you, we waive the remaining planning fees.

Who this is for

We do our best work for people who want to be engaged partners in their retirement planning — and who are willing to commit real time and effort to succeeding in the major life transition that retirement is. The relationship works best if you're at least open to the possibility of a long-term partnership, though plenty of clients do run their plans themselves. You don't need to commit to step two to start, or at any point.

We don't offer project-based or hourly planning. If that's what you're after, a directory like NAPFA or the Garrett Planning Network is a better fit.
