One of the most common questions I receive is whether or not to invest in residential real estate as a part of one's retirement strategy.

The short answer is, "it depends".

There are some cases where it makes sense - you have significant net worth, significant liquid assets, your assets are sufficiently diverse, and you live or have access to a market where the property can positively cash flow.

However, in most cases, the math simply doesn't add up. Especially in the current housing and interest rate environment.
